This comic is called ‘Bug’. It’s my first attempt at colouring a whole comic story. I learned a lot about how to colour stuff in a way that takes a really really long time to edit together.
‘Bug’ was shortlisted for the Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Award (for ‘graphic short story’), so that’s pretty nice really.
All the shortlists and winners.
The winning graphic short story ‘The Bolt Report’, by David Blumenstein.
Page one was also used as the cover art for a single by my band Dear Plastic.
I think the story is too short to publish, and I’m not really sure what to do with it other than share it here. The girl is based on my little sister Paisley.
Absolutely beautiful. The caterpillar’s face really makes it special 🙂
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Love it! As someone who collected all kinds of living things in jars in a past where we didn’t think about such things…and who feels bad about it in hindsight…I could really relate. So glad the Mom had more sense than mine, 🙂
Thanks, Bev! I was one of those kids too 🙂
Metamorphosis. This is true for me too: You put something out in the world and you have to let it go. Then it takes time. But I think with sincere creations like this, people will come to appreciate its beauty.
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure 🙂
Hi,
My 8 year old daughter is starting her own comic, she loves to draw and wants to take art lessons to help improve her comic illustrating skills.
Do you have any recommendations for me??
Thanks in advance!
