Scarlette Baccini is a visual artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. She began making schlock underground comics in the mid 2000s and producing music videos for her band Dear Plastic, before shifting her focus towards painting during the long lockdowns in 2020. Her detailed paintings obsess over the human form, with nods to the cartoonish body horror of her earlier work.

Heavily influenced by her academic background in the biological sciences, Scarlette’s work considers the ways in which biological things are both vulnerable and powerful, how our bodies are both deeply personal but also universal, and other paradoxes of our natural existence.
